Sharing the musical vision

Beowulf Mayfield meets up with trumpet player Chris Batchelor to hear the musician's memories of recording with the Voice of God Collective on the 1988 album Motorway At Night, his use of Billy's music in his teaching work and with his own 21st Century Avant Trad band Pigfoot.

In 2017 an ensemble of young musicians attending the National Youth Jazz Collective summer school took on Dressing Up For Church under Chris' guidance, watch their performance here.

Our presenter also has a bash at performing his own rendition of one of his favourite Billy compositions - Fat People from the 1982 album Sounds Like Bromley...

The Billy Jenkins Listening Club webcast is presented by creative photographer and former jazz columnist Beowulf "Wulfie" Mayfield, pictured bashing out Billy's music on the piano.

This episode includes extracts of Greenwich One Way System and Cuttlefish performed by Pigfoot at The Vortex jazz club, London, in October 2016.

The racket at the end of the episode is Beowulf Mayfield's attempt to play a piano rendition of Fat People.
