Guitar

by Billy Jenkins

The scrape of nail on
.52 string
entwined with steel
to keep flavour in

The keyboard finger
Loses skin
damping vibration
carving din

Claw-like hand
brushing tune
plectrum moon
blue lagoon

Crisp quarter runs
across six strings
warms the heart
and nether things

With a twang twang clang
caressed with bile
a noise machine gun
held with style

From infant child
to aged muse
every mood
to be perused

Strum alone
Or in a crowd
from almost peace to
fucking loud

E

D
B
&
E
the
sound
of
the
twentieth
century
